TROY, NY- Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute scored a goal with only 1:22 left to squeeze by the #24 ranked University of Rochester women's soccer team 2-1 on Friday night.
Rochester (3-1-0) got a goal in the 32nd minute from sophomore
Gabriella Goddette, but RPI (2-1-0) would snag the equalizer and then the winner late in the second half.
The Engineers would score the winner when Shelby Stromerson scored from in front of the Rochester goal off a corner kick late in the game. RPI would get their second goal at 71:49 when off another corner, Coley Mowder would head a shot into the top right corner past UR keeper
Allison Bernstein.
Bernstein would end up making six saves for Rochester in the loss while Alex Scholtz would make four saves for the Engineers.
Rensselaer would outshoot the Yellowjackets 16-9 with an 8-5 edge in shots finding the net. Senior
Jessica Smith fired four total shots while
Kim Stagg had two on goal.
Rochester next plays September 14 in the Upstate Collegiate Cup Tournament against William Smith College at 11 am. Also involved in that four team tournament is Ithaca and SUNY Cortland.
