FH Drops 1st Game of Year at Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY- Oneonta State used quick goals in each half to slide by the University of Rochester 4-3 in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.

Early in the game, the home Red Dragons (4-0) pelted UR starting goaltender Tara Lamberti with five shots in the first 12 minutes.  Of those five early shots, one would find the back of the net.  Oneonta started the scoring just 2:29 into the contest when Kelcy Fobragd cleaned up a rebound and gave the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets (3-1) would rebound in the 20th minute, scoring the equalizer when senior Lindsey Randall fired a blast from the top center of the circle into the cage past Oneonta's keeper.  Randall was set up on the PC by junior Belle Hoagland.

Oneonta would regain the lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half when Fobragd notched her second tally of the day, tapping in a great pass from teammate Ashley Morgan who threaded the needle, getting the ball to Fobragd between a defenders legs.  At the half, the home Red Dragons held a 2-1 lead.

The two teams played even during the first 10 minutes of the second half before Oneonta would snag another goal at 55:07.  This time, Oneonta's Morgan hit the post with her shot, only to have it find the stick of the wide open Andrea Day at the back side of the cage, tapping in home for a 3-1 lead.

Nursing the two goal lead, Oneonta kept the pressure up, not allowing Rochester a shot on goal for the next 11 minutes while earning four corners and firing five shots at UR's second keeper Madison Wagner.

Randall then would score her second of the day for Rochester, pulling UR within one with under two minutes to play in the game.  This goal was the same as her first, a hard blast from the top of the circle off a penalty corner pass from Hoagland.

Oneonta would then answer, quickly regaining their two goal margin when Chelsea Relming would score her first of the season with just 24 seconds left in the game.

Rochester would record an own goal as time was expiring to make the final score 4-3.

In the goals, Tess Tracy stopped four shots earning the win for Oneonta while Lamberti and Wagner made a total of five saves in the loss.

The win avenges Rochester's 3-1 win from last season in Rochester.  Oneonta now leads the all-time series 17-12.

Rochester will have to rebound from its first loss quickly as the Yellowjackets have a 2 pm tilt at Utica on Sunday afternoon.
