UTICA, NY – It didn't take long for freshman Callie Fisher to make an impact in her first collegiate start. Fisher tipped in a pass from Lindsey Randall) at 2:48 and that keyed a three-goal first half for the Yellowjackets which carried them to a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Utica College (3-1) on Sunday.
Michelle Relin doubled the lead at 10:58, setting up eight yards away and directing the ball inside the left corner. Nicole Cerza made it 3-0 just before halftime (32:25) when she scored into an open net after a pass from Megan Keil.
It was a good bounce-back win for the Yellowjackets who lost at SUNY Oneonta, 4-3, on Saturday. Rochester and Utica both earned NCAA playoff berths last year. The Pioneers defeated Rochester in overtime at Fauver Stadium in the regular season.
Madison Wagner went the distance in goal for Rochester. In 70 minutes, she made 12 saves. Kathryn Montgomery also made a defensive save for the Yellowjackets.
For Utica, Kells Casey made 12 saves and allowed three goals in 70 minutes. The Pioneers outshot the Yellowjackets, 21-17, and held a 14-9 advantage on penalty corners.
