Entering today's contest at the University of Rochester, the 20th-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team had given up just three goals in its first 12 games of the season. On Saturday, the University of Rochester hung two more goals on the Judges for a 2-0 victory in UAA conference action, snapping Brandeis' 12-game winning streak in the process.
Â
Rochester (5-4-3, 1-1 UAA) got second half goals from two freshmen, Laura Cowie-Haskell and Carolina Manent to pace the victory. The loss drops Brandeis to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in the UAA.
Â
UR got the game-winning goal from Cowie-Haskell in the 58th minute of the contest after a scoreless and evenly matched first half. On the play, senior Ashley Hunt served up a nice long ball to the freshman who battled a defender and Brandeis keeper Alexis Grossman for the ball, eventually coming out with it and cashing in her fourth goal of the season into the open net.
Â
Cowie-Haskell picked up her 3rd game-winner
of the season on Saturday.Just over 20 minutes later, Manent was able to add the insurance goal when she found the back of the net slapping in a loose ball in the box after a centering pass came from another freshman, Claire Kowalczyk, along the left sideline.
Â
In the 69th minute, the Judges had their best chance of the game when Lea McDaniel was set up on a breakaway by a long pass from Mathilde Robinson, but the sophomore's shot ended up sailing high of the Rochester net.
Â
With under 10 minutes to play, BU's Cidney Moscovitch nearly scored when a headed ball fell right to her at the right post, but her point blank shot was stabbed out of the air by Yellowjacket goalkeeper Aubrey Jaicks. The senior goalie ended the game with four saves, earning her fourth shutout of the season.
Â
For the game, Brandeis held an 11-7 edge in shots and took six corners to UR's three, but Rochester made their chances count and came away with the victory, its first in the last three games with the Judges.
Â
In the Brandeis net, Michelle Savuto played the first half and made one save while Grossman played the second 45 and picked up the loss.
