CHICAGO, IL – The University of Rochester volleyball team put up two tough fights, but dropped back-to-back 3-0 decisions to begin UAA Round Robin #2 on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets (11-16, 0-5 UAA) fell to New York University 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 and then to 7th-ranked Washington-St. Louis 25-17, 25-21 and 25-15.
Junior Jennie Ford led Rochester in kills in both matches, firing down 10 against NYU (17-8, 2-2 UAA) and then six more against the Bears (24-4, 3-1 UAA). She also added 12 digs in the first match and then nine more in the nightcap.
Freshman Allie Fredrickson added nine kills against the Violets while Emma Gira chipped in seven. Meghan Connor had 14 digs while Xiaoyi Li added 31 assists.
Against Washington, Gira and Alexandra Nelligan had five kills each while Ashley Hunter leading UR in digs with 14. Li added 20 more assists.
Rochester concludes the UAA Round Robin schedule against the University of Chicago and Brandeis on Sunday afternoon. The eight teams will then be seeded based on their round robin records before heading to the UAA Championship Finals at Carnegie Mellon in early November.
