The University of Rochester and Washington-St. Louis men's soccer teams entered Sunday looking to jumpstart the final few games of the 2014 season with a win. Neither team would come out with a victory as the two teams ended in a scoreless draw at Fauver Stadium on Sunday.
Â
The draw moves Rochester to 6-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the UAA while Washington is now 6-5-2, 0-3-1 in the UAA.
Â
UR would hold possession for a good chunk of the first half, earning two solid scoring chances in the first 10 minutes. Junior Sean Daly had a header in close inside the box in the 3rd minute. That was followed up six minutes later with sophomore Zachary Kanaley ripping a rising shot towards the top right corner of the net which was saved by a diving Daniel Geanon, Washington's keeper.
Â
At the half, the teams were scoreless with UR holding a 6-1 edge in shots.
Â
Daly hit the crossbar in the final seconds. In the opening five minutes of the second half, the visiting Bears then earned two strong chances to get on the board, but Kevin Maedomari's hard shot from inside the box was blocked and the follow up by Shadi Awad was sent high.
Â
The 66th minute saw Rochester's Ben Swanger nearly put the Yellowjackets on the board, but his hard shot from 15 yards out off a deflection was punched high by Geanon in the Wash U net.
Â
Both teams had one final chance in the closing minutes of regulation, but neither could capitalize, sending the game to overtime. UR's Ben Keeton couldn't control a header off an Alex Swanger service in the 88th minute. That was followed by a great tackle from Rochester's Andrew Sheridan on the Bears' Nick Politan in the box in the final minute of regulation.
Â
In overtime, Washington's Cole Davis broke in on goal and got UR keeper Michael Shatkin to come out for a challenge so the Bear junior sent a cross that ended just out of the reach of Maedomari who had an open goal.
Â
The second extra period was all Rochester, with the Yellowjackets firing eight shots and earning two corner kicks. The best chance to end the game came from Daly in the final 30 seconds, as the junior hit the crossbar off a Nick Pastore corner kick. The rebound went right to Sheridan who then flipped the last second shot high, sending the teams home with a 0-0 draw.
Â
For the game, UR outshot the Bears 20-6 and earned 10 corners to WU's three. Geanon was stellar, making eight saves in the Bear net while Shatkin made one save for UR.

The Yellowjackets next game is Oct. 25 at Kean University while the Bears host Principia next Thursday.
