BRONX, N.Y. –Amy Elgin scored 2:46 into the second sudden death overtime period to give NYU a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester at Gaelic Park on Saturday afternoon.
Â
It was the UAA opener for each team. NYU improved to 7-3 overall, 1-0 UAA. Rochester is 4-4-3 overall, 0-1 UAA.
Â
The winning goal came as a result of a scramble in the penalty area after the Violets served it deep into the box from left wing.
Â
Aubrey Jaicks made four saves in goal for Rochester. Cassie Steinberg had four saves for NYU. The shutout was Steinberg's fourth this season.
Â
It is the fourth time in the last five matches that the result was not determined in regulation. Rochester knotted RIT on Sept. 20. After a win over St. John Fisher three days later, the Yellowjackets lost in OT to RPI. Rochester and Nazareth drew 0-0 on Tuesday. Thunderstorms in the area precluded overtime being played.
