Bats Break Out as 'Jackets Take 2 in Fla.



CLERMONT, Fla – Rochester scored early and often in posting softball victories over Rhode Island College and Transylvania University at the Dot Richardson National Training Center on Sunday.
 
The Yellowjackets defeated Rhode Island College, 10-0, on Sunday morning and followed that with a 7-5 victory over Transylvania in the afternoon. Rochester is 3-1 with the University Athletic Association championship beginning on Tuesday in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
 
Brittany Grage pitched a one-hitter against RIC for her second win in two days. She struck out six and retired 13 in a row after yielding a two-out single in the first inning. Grage hit a three-run home run in the third inning when Rochester broke it open by scoring seven runs. The game ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.
 
Meghan Hennessy had two hits and scored two runs. Nina Korn was 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Tayler Fravel was 3-for-3. She scored twice and drove in one run. Lauren Muni had a two-run double in the first inning as Rochester jumped ahead, 3-0. Alyssa Murillo clouted a two-run home run in the big third inning.
 
In the game vs. Transylvania, freshman Eleni Wechsler picked up her first collegiate win. She pitched five-hit ball over six and two-thirds innings. She struck out four and walked two.
 
Rochester built a 7-2 lead heading through six innings. The Pioneers staged a two-out rally in the seventh, scoring twice. Wechsler was relieved by Ashley Amidon. She gave up a two-run double and a walk, then ended the game with a groundout to pick up her first save of the year.
 
Fravel it a two-run single in the first. Rochester scored three times in the second to build a 5-0  lead. Hennessy doubled home two runs and scored on a double by Korn. In the sixth inning, Murillo hit a two-run pinch-single to increase the lead to 7-2.
