The 2014 University of Rochester field hockey season got off to a fast start with a 5-0 victory over Houghton College on Saturday evening at Fauver Stadium.

Rochester (1-0) blasted a whopping 66 total shots in the contest, 45 of which found the net. The 66 shots set a new school record for shots in a game, breaking the mark of 52 at Elmira in 2007.

Junior
Michelle Relin led the way with two goals, one coming on a penalty stroke in the first half. She ended the contest with a total of 20 shots (16 on goal) for the fourth most by a single player in one game for Rochester. Relin now is alone in fourth place on Rochester's all-time scoring list, sitting with 96 points on a total of 38 goals and 20 assists.

Houghton only managed one shot in the game, but the contest was kept close by the outstanding play in the cage from freshman keeper Elizabeth Piszker who made 40 saves for the Highlanders (1-1). Sierra Kennedy and Tyler Reese also made defensive saves for Houghton.

Early in the second half,
Gina Cunningham slapped in a rebound off a scramble in front of Piszker putting UR up 3-0.

In the 58th minute, got her first score of the season after sneaking to the back post after a penalty corner. She was left untouched and tapped in a pass from the left wing by sophomore
Kate Anagnostos for a 4-0 lead.

Callie Fisher found the cage after a great cross pass from junior
Nicole Cerza. Keil nearly scored her second of the day in the closing seconds, but her tip in glanced off the left post and out of bounds.
