FROSTBURG, MD- Rochester split its first two matches at the Frostburg State Tournament on Friday evening. The Yellowjackets defeated Waynesburg University, 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22), then lost to once-beaten Washington College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-20).
With the split, Rochester's won-lost record stands at 4-6 heading into day two of the event. Head coach
Ladi Iya needs one win for her 100th career coaching victory.
Emma Gira recorded a game-high 16 kills and hit a sparkling .367 in the victory over Waynesburg.
Jennie Ford added eight kills, 12 digs, and two aces. Megan Connor had 21 digs.
Aimee Kohler had 16 assists and six digs. Ashley unter dug 14 balls and recorded three aces.
Xiaoyi Li had 28 assists and nine digs.
Waynesburg (3-7 after the loss) was led by nine kills from Kourtney Skinner.
Against Washington College,
Alexandra Nelligan lede the way with nine kills. She hit .412. Ford had seven kills and 10 digs. Gira chipped in six kills. Connor had 14 digs. Li registered 27 assists. Kristin Lee led Washington with 13 kills and 13 digs.
