CORTLAND, N.Y. – William Smith College scored two goals in each half to post a 4-0 victory over the University of Rochester at the Upstate Collegiate Cup hosted by SUNY Cortland on Sunday.
The Herons (3-2) won the UCC Championship title. They downed host Cortland in Saturday's semifinals. Rochester (3-2-1) upended fourth-ranked Ithaca, 2-0, in the Saturday semifinals.
This marked Rochester's third straight tournament weekend. The Yellowjackets won their own Flower City Classic in late August, defeating Fredonia and Eastern Nazarene. On the first weekend of September, Rochester lost to Union, 1-0, in the first round of the Union Classic, then tied UMass-Boston, 2-2, in the second round.
William Smith scored two early goals to surge into the lead. Theresa Lohr scored three minutes into the match by heading home a corner kick. Krista Longo made it 2-0 at 12:34, scoring from close range. Unassisted goals two minutes apart in the second half (Emma Diehl at 65:47, Lauren Randaccio at 67:57) closed the scoring.
Aubrey Jaicks played the first 73:25 in goal for Rochester. She made one save.
Madilynne Lee played the final 16:35 and made one save.
The Yellowjackets play RIT at Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday at 4:30 pm. They play three straight at home after that, beginning with a September 23 match vs. St. John Fisher. The UAA season begins on October 4 at NYU.
