Women's Hillside Shield Match Ends In 0-0 Draw

ROCHESTER, NY - For the second straight year the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology women's soccer teams battled to a tie in the annual Hillside Community Shield at Sahlen's Stadium.  Neither team was able to find the back of the net on Saturday, with the game ending in a double overtime 0-0 tie.

Rochester (3-2-2) controlled most of the possession in the first half, outshooting the Tigers 6-0 with the best chances coming from UR's Ashley Hunt in the 11th minute and Lee Stagg in the 24th minute.

RIT (3-1-3) turned the tables and was able to generate some solid scoring chances in the 2nd period, but again neither team was able to find the back of the net.  The Tigers had the best chance of the contest in the 69th minute when Qunicey Ornellas was taken down in the box, earning a penalty kick.  Her try sailed wide of the net, keeping the game scoreless.

The Yellowjackets' Laura Cowie-Haskell had a shot four minutes later saved off the line by Tiger defender Alyssa Tatti.  RIT responded at the other end with a good opportunity when Elizabeth May juked a defender and fired a hard shot that went just wide right of the 'Jacket net.

With under 10 seconds on the clock, RIT's Caitlyn Daly had a header off a long throw in go just above the post, sending the game to overtime.

The Tigers then provided the two best chances in the extra sessions with Sierra Kiss earning a partial breakaway in the first OT and Ornellas losing a one-on-one battle with UR keeper Aubrey Jaicks in the second overtime.

For the game, Jaicks made three saves for UR while Amanda Murray made four stops for the Tigers.
