Senior captain
Megan Keil scored two goals to lift the University of Rochester field hockey team to its sixth straight victory to start the season, a 5-0 win over Hartwick College on Wednesday evening at Fauver Stadium.
Â
Rochester (6-0) controlled most of the game, finishing with a 31-1 shot advantage. Hartwick is 1-5 on the year.
Â
Just over six minutes in, sophomore
Callie Fisher had the first good scoring chance of the game, tipping a
Michelle Relin shot just wide of the Hawk net. It was a reversal of fortune less than 30 seconds later as Relin opened the scoring with a six yard shot from in front off a pass from Fisher, giving UR a 1-0 lead. The junior has scored at least one goal in every Rochester game this season.
Â
Keil doubled the lead six minutes later when her backhand shot from 12 yards slipped past Hartwick keeper Yanna Boggio. The tally was Keil's 25th of her career and moves her into 14th all-time in Rochester history in scoring with 61 career points.
Â
HC's Boggio made a couple great saves to keep the Yellowjackets off the board in the 23rd minute, including stoning senior
Gina Cunningham on a point blank chance at the goal mouth. At the half, UR led 2-0.
Â
Fisher found the back of the cage 7:43 into the second half, tipping in a shot off a right wing pass from Cunningham. The score was her 3rd of the season.
Â
Keil would then make the Rochester lead 4-0 with her second score of the game, firing a right wing shot from five yards out into the low left corner of the cage.Â
Mimi Adar recorded the assist.
Â
Late in the contest, freshman
Samantha Dow recorded her first career point when she assisted on UR's 5th goal, a tap in at the front of the goal by Cunningham. Both she and Fisher finished with a goal and an assist on the day.
Â
Overall, four keepers for Hartwick saw time in the cage with the starter Boggio making 14 saves. Shannon Carter, Jillian Sabatino and Laura Downey also played in goal for the Hawks. Mickaelan Stuligross made a defensive save as well for the visitors.
Â
Rochester also got some work for all three of its goalkeepers, with
Tara Lamberti,
Kiran Sundaram and
Gabrielle Cantley seeing time and combining on the shutout.
Â
The Yellowjackets season continues on Saturday when they travel to SUNY New Paltz for a game at 12 pm.
