UR Comes Away With 3-2 Win Over RIT in Hillside Match

ROCHESTER, NY - In an exciting finale to the night, the University of Rochester men's soccer team captured the Hillside Community Shield by virtue of a 3-2 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday night at Sahlen's Stadium.

The #20 ranked Yellowjackets (4-1-2) got a goal from senior Nick Pastore in the 75th minute for the game winner.  RIT drops to 1-5-1 on the season, with all five losses coming by one goal.

Rochester got on the board first in the seventh minute when Ben Keeton slammed in a penalty kick goal after senior teammate Jack Thesing was fouled in the box by an RIT defender.

Thesing made the score 2-0 eight minutes later when he headed a Jeff Fafinski corner kick into the top left corner of the net past a sprawling Mark Reeves in the Tiger net.

RIT would battle back though, getting a goal from Matt Miles at 38:13 to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into halftime.  The sophomore's first career goal came off a 30 yard lob shot from the left sideline that caught UR keeper Michael Shatkin off guard and floated into the top of the net.

Early in the second half, RIT got back-to-back scoring chances from Miles and Tristan Scott, but both were saved away by Shatkin.  The sophomore keeper made four saves on the night for UR.

In the 65th minute, the Tigers would get the equalizer from Dakota Kegler.  His hard volley from 20 yards out just nicked the head of a UR defender and squeezed just under the cross bar for a 2-2 tie.

RIT nearly took the lead in the 74th minute when shots from Jonny Price and Danny Bloshkin each had point blank shots in front of the Rochester net, but both chances were blocked away.

The Yellowjackets would then quickly respond, getting the final score of the night from Pastore who ripped a blast from the top of the box just off of Reeves' fingertips into the top of the net.  The tally was his team leading 4th of the season and was his second game winner of 2014.

Overall, UR held a 10-8 edge in shots and took nine corners to RIT's two.

Rochester's next game is Tuesday evening when the team travels across town for a battle against St. John Fisher.
