Unbeaten Lycoming Downs 'Jackets 2-1 in OT

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Unbeaten Lycoming College netted a goal 5:38 into overtime to upend the 15th ranked University of Rochester men's soccer team in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Lycoming (8-0-2) scored on a breakaway from Dom Haynes in the extra session, ending Rochester's seven game unbeaten streak.  UR is now 5-2-2 on the season.

The homestanding Warriors opened up the scoring in 17th minute when Kyle Thomas headed in a corner kick from teammate Abdullahi Abdi.

Rochester would answer quickly with a score 50 seconds later.  Senior Jack Thesing cracked a shot off a deflected ball in the box to the top left corner, evening the score at 1-1.  Thesing's goal was only the second score surrendered by the Warriors all season long.

The Yellowjackets would apply pressure throughout the rest of regulation, finishing with a 10-7 edge in shots and 7-2 corner kick advantage in the first 90 minutes, but could not break through.

A switch seemed to be turned on for Lycoming in extra time, as the Warriors took the only three shots and finished the game even in total shots at 10-10.

In goal, sophomore Michael Shatkin made five saves in the loss while Connor Keenan turned away six shots in the Warrior net.

Rochester now heads into UAA conference play next week when it travels to New York University on October 4th.
