Senior goalkeeper
Aubrey Jaicks turned away nine shots and helped the University of Rochester women's soccer battle crosstown rival Nazareth College to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday evening.
Â
The game was called after regulation due to lightning and severe weather in the area. Rochester moves to 4-3-3 while Nazareth picks up its first draw on the year and is 7-2-1.
Â
The visiting Golden Flyers got the first solid chance 13:30 in when Briana Vibbard slipped a pass up to Liz Howell who got past Jaicks, but the play was well defended by a Rochester back and the juniors shot sailed wide left.
Â
Ten minutes later, UR's first opportunity to get on the board was presented by the midfield combo of
Lauren Pien and
Kim Stagg. Pien sent up a great service from the right wing, but Stagg was well covered by a Nazareth defender breaking up the play.
Â
In the 37th minute, Jaicks came out of the net again and got beat to the ball by Nazareth's Rachel Dise, but her shot slid just wide of the net. The teams would head to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0 through 45 minutes.
Â
52 minutes into the game, the Golden Flyers Vibbard and Howell executed a strong give-and-go to break open along the left wing, but Howell's shot again went high of the Yellowjacket net.
Â
Rochester's Stagg nearly found the net in the 69th minute off a long volley that took a high bounce in the box, but she couldn't control her shot and it sailed high.
Â
Late in regulation, Nazareth's Howell and Vibbard both had excellent chances on turnaround strikes off of short entry corner kicks, but Jaicks made two great saves, keeping the game scoreless and sending the contest to overtime.
Â
In the Nazareth net, Allison Dobles made one save. For the game, Naz held a 13-8 edge in shots and 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
Â
Prior to the start of overtime, lightning was spotted in the area, sending the teams to the locker room for safety purposes. 15 minutes into the delay, game officials called the contest ending it in a 0-0 draw.
Â
Rochester now will hit the road to open UAA conference play when it travels to NYU this Saturday.
