CANTON, N.Y. – Rochester converted two first half penalty strokes enroute to a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence University on Sunday and guaranteed itself a home game in the Liberty League field hockey playoffs.

The Yellowjacket win, coupled with William Smith's win over Skidmore (2-1 in Saratoga Springs), gives Rochester the number two seed in the playoffs. The Yellowjackets will play third-seeded Skidmore on November 4 at Fauver Stadium. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Top-seeded William Smith will host fourth-seeded Vassar College. Winners meet on Saturday, November 7, at the highest seed. The winner of that game gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Lamberti had nine saves.Michelle Relin scored two goals, boosting her total to 14 for this season. Sayaka Abe had the other goal. Relin put Rochester ahead, 1-0, at 7:23 when she converted the penalty stroke. Abe doubled the lead eight minutes later, scoring on a stroke at 15:21.

Relin scored her second goal of the match at 32:38, finishing off a three-on-one break. The Yellowjackets turned up the offensive pressure in the second half by firing 23 shots at goal.

St. Lawrence ruined the shutout bid on a goal by XiXi Halvorso-Phelan at 41:31. Kara Pelosi's try for goal was turned aside by Tara Lamberti, but Halvorso-Phelan was there to knock in the rebound.

Lamberti finished with nine saves, several of the acrobatic nature in the second half as the Saints tried to rally. SLU goaltender Kim Haab made 16 saves.

Rochester boosted its overall record to 13-4. The Yellowjackets finished 4-2 in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence is 4-10 overall, 1-5 in the Liberty League. The Yellowjackets play on the road twice this week – visiting Houghton College on Wednesday and Geneseo on Saturday.
