PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Rochester used a balanced attacking plan and had the blocking game in full swing as the Yellowjackets defeated Montclair State University, 3-0, at the New York Regional Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

The victory came less than 24 hours after Rochester lost a five-setter to SUNY Fredonia, 3-2, in the second matchup of the season between the teams. Fredonia won the first set, 25-23, Rochester evened it with a 25-20 win in set two,. Fredonia won another 25-23 decision, before Rochester won 25-21 to force game five. The Blue Devils managed to squeeze out an 18-16 decision in the fifth game for the win.

Against Montclair, Rochester had nine team blocks against MSU and won, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21. The victory evened Rochester's record at 15-15 heading into the University Athletic Association championships on Friday and Saturday. Rochester is seeded sixth in UAAs and will play third-seeded Case Western Reserve. Montclair State was 17-13 after the Rochester victory.

In the MSU match, Emma Gira and Nina Baek had seven kills apiece. Jennie Ford had five and Alexandra Goldman had four. Gira had six total blocks – three solo and three block assists. Aimee Kohler had three block assists and Shira Katz had two block assists.

Kohler had three of Rochester's seven service aces. Meghan Connor had two. The dig leaders were Ford with 14, Kohler with 10, and Connor with eight. Katz contributed five.

In the five setter against Fredonia, Katz had 22 kills. Gira and Ford had 14 apiece. Goldman had five. Kohler had 57 assists. Connor had four service aces and Kohler had three. Rochester had 10 block assists –  four by Goldman (fresh off her total fo 11 blocks vs. Stevens in the first match, two from Katz, two from Baek, and one apiece from Kayla Sell and Gira. Fredonia's victory made the Blue Devils 22-9.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Gira was named to the All-Tournament Team.
