Rochester put its hitting game back into place on Friday evening and defeated NYU, 3-1, in the consolation round of the UAA Women's Volleyball Championships. The win gave the Yellowjackets a split after a 3-0 loss to Case Western Reserve in mid-afternoon.

Case defeated Rochester, 25-15, 25-19, 25-11. The Yellowjackets did not hit well against the Spartans. In the opening game vs. NYU, the same was true. Rochester had nine kills and eight attack errors. But midway through the second set, Rochester took control of its game and went on to a 15-25, 25-20, 25-15 victory.

Rochester's record stands at 16-16 heading into Saturday morning's fifth place match against Carnegie Mellon. That will be played on Court A at 10 am. The seventh place match pairs Brandeis against NYU on Court C at 10. Case Western Reserve plays Chicago for third place in the Palestra at 10. The championship match has top-ranked Emory University against third-ranked Washington University at 1 pm.

Against Case on Friday, Alara Kocak led Rochester with nine kills. Jennie Ford and Emma Gira had five kills apiece. Kayla Sell and Alexandra Goldman had three kills.

Meghan Connor had 19 digs. Ashley Hunter had 11. Aimee Kohler added seven (to accompany 25 assists) and Ford had five. Kocak and Kohler had solo blocks. Sell, Ford, Goldman, and Shira Katz had block assists.

Rochester hit .316 over the last three games against NYU. For the match, the Yellowjackets hit .237. Kocak had 11 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Ford had 10 kills (.360) Gira and Goldman had nine kills each (Goldman hit .312). Sell hit .357 enroute to eight kills.

Ford had 16 digs, Connor had 15, Kohler registered 12, and Courtney Vidovich had 10. The Yellowjackets totaled seven team blocks. Goldman had three solos and three assists. Sell had two assists. Katz, Gira, and Kocak had one each.

Kohler contributed 45 assists. The Yellowjackets had nine service aces – three by Hunter, two from Kohler and Vidovich, one each by Ford and Gira.

Before the championship match on Saturday, the 23 seniors among the eight schools will be formally recognized.
