ST. LOUIS – Host Washington University (MO) scored two first half goals and rode that to a 2-0 victory over the University of Rochester in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.

Washington, ranked seventh in the current NSCAA Division III poll, boosted its record to 9-1 overall, 1-0 in the UAA. Rochester is 4-4-1 overall, 0-1 in the UAA.

Madilynee Lee made three saves in goal for Rochester. She faced 14 shots. Washington's Lizzy Crist made four saves – all in the second half – to preserve the victory.

Katie Chandler opened the scoring for Washington with a goal at 26:17. A long ball was played upfield and a cross put into the middle which Chandler turned home. Megan Renken and Rachel Michelson picked up the assists.

Four minutes before the halftime whistle, Caroline Dempsey pushed a cross in front and Darcy Cunningham flicked it into the goal at 40:58.

Rochester returns home for its second UAA match – against Chicago on Meliora Saturday. The women play at 5 pm. Â
