LANCASTER, PA – The University of Rochester field hockey team dropped a tight 2-1 decision in a matchup with top-20 teams with the University of Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon.

The game was being played at the Spooky Nook Complex in Lancaster, PA, site of the USA National Teams training center.

Rochester drops to 5-2 with the loss while the Eagles improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Eagles were able to score two quick goals in the first half, coming less than three minutes apart. At 14:58, Kathleen Namey opened the scored for UMW when her shot was deflected in by a UR defender. Then at 17:50, Jenna Steele made it 2-0 Mary Washington when she converted on a penalty stroke after a UR defender fouled an attacking player in the act of shooting.

Early in the second half, Rochester's Michelle Relin was able to cut the deficit in half with a her team leading 4th goal of the season with the assist going to Miranda Lakis.

In the cage, Tara Lamberti played well and made 13 saves for the Yellowjackets. Freshman Courtney Dunham added a defensive save for UR. For Mary Washington, Jessica Cavolt made eight stops for the Eagles in the win.

Rochester returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Brockport to face the College at Brockport at 7 pm.
