The University of Rochester posted a strong performance in a 3-0 victory over St. John Fisher College on Tuesday night at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Â
With the win, Rochester's head coach Chris Apple earns his 200th career coaching victory. UR moves to 4-2-1 on the year while the visiting Cardinals drop to 0-8.
Â
After a scoreless first half, UR would get on the board a little over a minute into the second when senior Andrew Greenway headed in a corner kick from teammate Zachary Kanaley just inside the near post.
Â
Kelly's goal in the 61st minute gave UR a 2-0 lead.Rochester would control play for most of the game, earning a 17-1 edge in total shots and 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Yellowjackets would boost the lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute. There, Breadan Kelly snuck a header past St. John Fisher's goalie off a long left wing pass from teammate Tyler Buck.
Â
UR would then add some insurance ten minutes later when off a free kick, Geoffrey Rouin would skid a ground ball through multiple defenders legs and bend it around the outstretched arms of the Cardinal keeper for a 3-0 lead.
Â
The first half was filled with a slew of chances for the Yellowjackets, but they turned out to be near misses as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
Â
UR's Buck would nearly put the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard in the 4th minute off a set play after a corner kick, but his hard shot from 15 yards out was blocked.
Â
At the 10:30 mark, Rochester's Michael Cross had back-to-back chances in close, but both were saved by Cardinal keeper Joe Catalfamo. Three minutes later, Jeffrey Fafinski had an open net at the back post off a corner kick, but his chested shot was saved by a closing Catalfamo.
Â
Overall, Fisher's Catalfamo made five saves in goal. Rochester played two keepers, with neither starter Redd Brown or Marshal Davidson being forced to make a save.
Â
The Yellowjacket return to action this Saturday at home in a 7 pm game against Lycoming College.
