Offense Breaks Out In 6-1 Win Over Keuka

FAUVER STADIUM – The University of Rochester women's soccer team scored a season high six goals in a 6-1 victory over Keuka College on Wednesday evening at Fauver Stadium.

Rochester picks up its third win of the year, moving to 3-6-5 while Keuka drops back to .500 on the year, with its record becoming 7-7.

Sophomore McKenzie Runyan led the way with two goals and an assist for the Yellowjackets while classmate Kerri Eden added two assists.  Freshman Jorie Freitag had one goal and one assist while Lee Stagg, Hannah Wadsworth and Paige Gloster completed the goal scoring.

Keuka was held to just four shots on the night, but one of them found the back of the net with Nicole Browe scoring off an assist from teammate Emily McGuigan.

The Yellowjacket offense applied pressure to the Wolves defense early and often, generating plenty of offense utilizing long passes up the sidelines and then using its team speed to press forward into the box.

Rochester's opening goal came at 15:03 when Freitag finished a beautiful service from the left side by Eden, tapping the ball in at the back post, giving Keuka goalkeeper Talia Cruz no chance at a save.

Runyan had a career high 5 points (2G, 1A).

Just over seven minutes later, Runyan made it 2-0 Rochester when she kicked in a rebound that slipped though Cruz's hands off a Freitag shot.

The Yellowjackets made it 3-0 with 15 minutes left in the half when Runyan used a Wolves turnover to her advantage, grabbing the ball and slipping it through to Wadsworth who cracked a low, hard shot into the net from the right wing.

Two and half minutes into the second half, Runyan was able to score her second of the night chipping another strong Eden cross into the top left corner of the net.  Shortly after, UR's Kim Stagg hit the post, narrowly missing her first goal of the year.

Kim's sister Lee would find the back of the net in the 62nd minute firing a shot into the top right corner from the edge of the box.  Teammate Nicolette Kober set up the play with a nice through pass up the middle of the field.

Gloster finished off the 'Jacket scoring when she cracked a hard shot off a free kick loose ball into the net for a 6-0 UR lead with under seven minutes to go.

Less than 30 seconds after Rochester's final goal, the Wolves were able to get on the scoreboard when Browe finished off a through ball from the right wing.  McGuigan made a nice play in the open field and slipped the pass in between two 'Jacket defenders to her teammate.

In net, UR's Madilynne Lee was not forced to make a save in picking up the win, playing the opening 45 minutes. Samantha Hlavac finished the game and made three saves in the second half.  For Keuka, Cruz made six stops.

Rochester's next contest is the final non-conference matchup of the year when the Yellowjackets host RIT next Tuesday at 7 pm at Fauver Stadium.
