FAUVER STADIUM – The University of Rochester field hockey team finished off Liberty League conference play with a 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.

The #13 ranked Yellowjackets (14-3, 4-2 Liberty League) will be the #4 seed in the conference tournament after finishing the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings. Skidmore and Vassar also finished at 4-2 in conference with William Smith (5-1) taking the regular season crown. Vassar defeated both UR and Skidmore and thus earns the 2nd seed and following that Skidmore won head-to-head over Rochester to claim the #3 spot. St. Lawrence drops to 5-10 and 1-5 in the conference with the loss.

Rochester opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a goal from in close from
Olivia Denny on the first shot of the contest. She tapped in a pass from
Nancy Bansbach who chipped it past St. Lawrence keeper Julia Hudson after UR freshman
Maya Haigis sent a long ball to the goal mouth from outside of the circle.

Denny scored the opening goal for the Yellowjackets.
The 'Jackets dominated possession in the first 35 minutes, taking 11 shots and earning eight penalty corners to none for the visiting Saints. SLU's Hudson kept the Saints in the game though, making three saves in the opening half along with some strong defense from her teammates, blocking numerous UR chances. At the break, Rochester would lead 1-0.

Nine minutes into the second half, the Saints earned their top chance of the afternoon when Anna Hughes and Maggie Wraight broke in alone on UR goalie
Kiran Sundaram, but the junior keeper for the Yellowjackets made a nice play, breaking up the chance before a shot could be attempted.

At 53:11, UR's
Sayaka Abe made a strong counter attack play in Saints territory and slipped a pass through the defense to teammate
Claire Dickerson who slapped in a shot near the left post for a 2-0 Rochester lead.

The Yellowjackets then completed the scoring with a tip-in goal from freshman
Emma Schlechter off a hard penalty corner blast from classmate
Colleen Maillie, coming in the 63rd minute.

In goal for Rochester,
Gabrielle Cantley and
Kiran Sundaram each played a half but were not forced to make a save. Hudson finished with four stops in the cage for the Saints.

Rochester returns to action on Friday October 28 at home against SUNY Geneseo at 6 pm while the Saints play on Wednesday at SUNY Cortland at 4 pm.
