FAUVER STADIUM – Rochester put on early pressure, scored twice in the first 19 minutes, and went on to a 3-0 victory over St. John Fisher in women's soccer on Tuesday evening.

Lee Stagg scored goals for the Yellowjackets.
Kim Stagg and
Megan Runyan picked up assists.

Gwen Haffenden played the first 59:09 in goal. She made one save.
Madilynne Lee played the final 30:51 and made two saves. For St. John Fisher, Gabriella Cotugno made 11 saves in 90 minutes.

This was Rochester's second straight win after upending then-12
th-ranked Washington University of St. Louis, 3-1, on Saturday night in the University Athletic Association opener. The Yellowjackets are 2-4-4 overall. St. John Fisher lost its fourth straight game. The Cardinals are 2-6-1.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring just 1:48 into the match. A long throw-in towards the box caromed off a Fisher defender and right to
McKenzie Runyan who wheeled and fired inside the right post.

UR applied steady pressure over the first 15 minutes with
Kim Stagg, Jean Chamakas, and
Megan Runyan all coming close. Fisher's first scoring foray came with 30 minutes left in the period., Carly Finn tried a long lead pass into the box looking for Taryn Guinta. Haffenden read the play corrected, came off her line, and plucked away the pass before Guinta could reach it.

With 19 minutes elapsed, Freitag made it 2-0.
Kim Stagg pushed the ball out from the center to Freitag operating on right wing. Freitag shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 22 yards out.

Lee Stagg nearly got on the scoreboard four minutes into the second half. She maneuvered into the penalty area, eventually inside the crease and from four yards out, she hit the post. Cotugno leapt on the rebound before Stagg could get to it.

But with 36:03 left,
Lee Stagg did pilfer a goal.
Megan Runyan tried a long shot straight on. The ball hit Cotugno in the chest and bounced down. Stagg pushed the rebound into the net.
