Ithaca Sweeps; 5 HRs Spark Game 1 Victory

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca ran its record to 11-5 with a 7-2 and 9-1 sweep of Rochester on Wednesday afternoon. The Bombers have now won eight of their last 10. Rochester's northern record is even at 3-3. The Yellowjackets are 7-13 overall.
 
Game One: Ithaca 7, Rochester 2
The Bombers lent credence to their nickname, hitting five home runs in the first five innings of the opener, enroute to a 7-2 victory over Rochester.
 
The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Kayla Kibling singled and took second on an outfield error.  She moved to third on a wild pitch. Eleni Wechsler and Lauren Muni drew walks to load the bases. Rachael Pletz was hit by a pitch, forcing home Kibling with the first run.With the Yellowjackets ahead, 1-0, heading into the bottom of the third, Nikkey Skuraton homered to right and Vanessa Brown homered to left center for a 2-1 lead.
 
Rochester got even in the top of the fourth. Haberly Kahn led off with a single. She was bunted to second by Laurelle Byrne-Cody and moved to third on a groundout by Shelby Corning. Kibling reached on an infield error and Kahn ran home with the tying run.
 
In the Ithaca fourth, Emily Bloom hit a two-run home run to right center. The Bombers extended their lead to 7-2 in the fifth. Casey Gavin hit a solo shot to right center after Kelly Robichaud hit a two-run homer.
 
Lauren Quicker earned the win for Ithaca. In seven innings, she allowed four hits, two walks, and struck out six. One of Rochester's runs was unearned. Wechsler pitched the first five innings, allowing eight hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. She allowed seven runs (all earned).

Game Two: Ithaca 9, Rochester 1
This one ended in the bottom of the fifth when Ithaca scored two runs with one out and extended its lead to 9-1. Sam Malecki started and took the loss. In 2.1 innings, she allowed five hits, three walks, three earned runs, and struck out one. Elizabeth Bourne finished up. Ithaca took advantage of two Rochester errors and scored four unearned runs plus two earned runs off Bourne. She allowed eight hits and two walks. The Yellowjackets had three hits.
