CLERMONT, FL – The University of Rochester's Softball team split their final two games in Clermont, Florida before heading to Altamonte Springs, Florida to play 10 games from March 6th – March 13th. The Yellowjackets defeated Muhlenberg College 10-2 in their first game Sunday afternoon. The team then fell to Cornell College 9-10 in 8 innings later Sunday afternoon.
In the first game, Junior Eleni Wechsler was credited with the win. She pitched an impressive 5.0 innings only allowing only 2 runs on 1 hit, and striking out two.
Five Yellowjackets had a multi-hit games; Laurelle Bryne-Cody, Wechsler, Mackenzie Cronin, and Lauren Muni all finished with 2 hits on the day and all notching at least 1 RBI. Haberly Kahn went 3-3 at the plate and drove in 3.
In the second game of the day, UR used three different pitchers to help get through the 8 inning game, however could not hold onto their one-run lead allowing two runs in the bottom of the 8th.
Rochester scored three runs in the 5th to regain the lead after trailing 6-5. Raegan Herne and Courtney Semkewyc both scored on wild pitches. Harleigh Kaczegowicz single to right field, driving in Jocelynn Blackshear to take an 8-6 lead.
Cornell answered with two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 8. UR lead 9-8 heading into the bottom of the 8th from a Wechsler RBI single driving in Kacegowicz. Applehans tripled to center field in the bottom of the inning, driving in two to win the game 10-9 in extra innings. Â
Kacegowicz finished 4-5 with 1 RBI, while teammate Kahn finished with 2 RBI's.
The Yeallowjackets return to action Tuesday March 6th, where they take on Emory University in their first game ofthe UAA Championships in to Altamonte Springs, Florida at 10am.Â
