Box Score SANFORD, FL – Case Western Reserve University moved to 3-0 in conference play after defeating the University of Rochester 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the UAA Baseball Championships.

The Spartans (6-4, 3-0 UAA) got off to a quick start in the contest, scoring three runs in the 1st and one each in the 2nd and 3rd innings to jump ahead 5-0. Rochester (1-2) would score its lone run in the fourth, but Case would respond with three runs over the next two innings to reach the final score of 8-1, forcing UR to its second straight loss.

The three runs surrendered by freshman starter Jack Denzer in the first inning were all unearned, thanks to a Yellowjacket fielding error. In the frame, Daniel Watson and Josh Neal for Case Western Reserve notched RBI hits.

In the second, Nate Glasser doubled in a run and the third inning saw Neal drive a grounder to left giving the Spartans a 5-0 lead.

Rochester's fourth inning was led off by a Lance Hamilton double. After a pop out, Hamilton stole third setting up Jack Herman for an RBI chance. Herman delivered with a single to right, plating UR's only run of the game.

Case Western Reserve added two runs in the fifth, behind singles from Tony Damiano and Aaron Cain then capped the scoring when Rocco Maue scampered home on a wild pitch in the sixth.

UR got two hits from freshman Ryan Spurr on the day while Hamilton and Jake Meyerson each had a double and stolen base in the game.

Rochester continues UAA play on Wednesday with an 11 am game against #3 ranked Emory.
