ITHACA, NY – 2nd ranked William Smith College displayed too much firepower as they defeated the University of Rochester women's soccer team 3-1 in the Upstate Collegiate Cup on Saturday.

Rochester (0-3-2) got a second half goal from senior
Lee Stagg, but a quick 3-0 start to the game for the Herons (6-0) did the Yellowjackets in.

William Smith opened the scoring 72 seconds into the contest when Evie Mannie scored off a corner kick from teammate Emma Diehl.

Eight minutes later, the Herons made it 2-0 when Shay Callahan chipped a ball past UR keeper
Madilynne Lee from inside the crease. William Smith's Lauren Kogelmann set up the play, dumping the ball into the penalty area to Callahan who finished off the chance.

Kara Shue then made it 3-0 for #2 William Smith at the 14 minute mark, knocking a loose ball past Lee.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Rochester's defense was able to clear a ball off the line, and stopped three Heron chances in a span of 30 seconds, keeping the score at 3-0. Freshman goalkeeper
Gwen Haffenden made the final save of the flurry, sending the teams to the locker room.

Rochester entered the scoring column 10 minutes into the second half when senior
Lee Stagg was able to finish off a pass from sophomore
Megan Runyan.

Runyan's twin sister McKenzie kickstarted the UR offense in the period, firing two shots in the opening minutes, forcing Heron keeper Veronica Romines to make an early save.

Two favorable bounces went Rochester's way with about 20 minutes remaining in the contest, as both Shue and Ella McMackin hit the crossbar on scoring chances for the Herons.

Overall in the contest, William Smith outshot Rochester 20-5 and took eight corners to UR's 1. Haffenden made two saves in 66 minutes of work while Lee made one stop for the Yellowjackets. Romines picked up the win for the Herons, making one save.

Rochester will now play host Ithaca for third place in the Upstate Collegiate Cup on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm on Carp Wood Field.
