UR, Geneseo Duel to 1-1 Finish in Flower City

FAUVER STADIUM – Rochester was denied a thrilling victory when Geneseo goalkeeper Emily Janiszewski made a clutch save at the post in the final seconds on Friday afternoon. The Yellowjackets and Knights tied, 1-1, in the opening round of the Flower City Women's Soccer Classic.

The teams mutually agreed not to play overtime because Geneseo has to play Union College at 11 am on Saturday. Rochester will play Montclair State University at 1:30 pm. Montclair defeated Union, 1-0, in the first game on Friday.

With the Yellowjackets pressing in the final 30 seconds, Jorie Freitag led Kerri Eden down left wing. Eden's shot from close quarters was saved by Janiszewski at the low left post and the Yellowjackets couldn't capitalize on the rebound before the final horn sounded.

Janiszewski finished with four saves. For Rochester, Madilynne Lee had one save in 41:55 in the first half. Samantha Hlavac had one save in 48:05. She played the final 3:05 of the opening half and the entire second period.

Geneseo's goal was scored in the fifth minute. Emily Green picked up a loose ball in Rochester's defensive third and dribbled into the middle. She pushed a pass to the right side where Audrey Reid was running free. Reid drove into the right side of the penalty box and drove the ball into the roof of the net on the opposite side as Lee charged off the line.

Rochester equalized with less than eight minutes left in the half, ending a run of somewhat steady pressure on the Geneseo defense. McKenzie Runyan played the ball from the center of the pitch to Hannah Wadsworth. She drove the tying goal into the lower left hand corner from right wing.
