POTSDAM, N.Y. – A pairing of 9-4 teams turned out to be everything that it promised as host Clarkson University defeated the University of Rochester, 3-1, on Friday evening in a well-played women's volleyball match. Â

The Golden Knights improved to 10-4 overall with the four-set win. The Yellowjackets are 9-5. Both teams play Williams College on Saturday. Rochester battles at 2 p.m. and Clarkson faces Williams at 6 p.m.

Clarkson won the first game, 25-16, with a superior hitting percentage (.267). Rochester hit .130. Fortunes changed in the second set. The Yellowjackets hit .333, the best percentage of the night for either club. Clarkson hit to a negative percentage and Rochester evened the team score at one apiece with a 25-13 victory. Clarkson won the third set, 25-20, and took the clincher, 25-23, in set four.

Clara Martinez led Rochester with 11 kills and nine total blocks (two solo, seven assists).
Alexandra Goldman had eight kills and
Alara Kocak had seven.
Shira Katz and
Alexandra Nelligan finished with six kills apiece.

Nina Baek had 15.
Sara Apanavicius had nine digs.
Courtney Vidovich and Apanavicius led Rochester with two service aces apiece.
