TROY, N.Y. – Rochester's men stayed unbeaten on the soccer pitch after a 0-0 double overtime tie at Rensselaer on Saturday evening.
Â
Scoring chances both ways were scant, but each team created some nervous moments in front of goal for defenses.
Â
With five minutes left in regulation, Rochester's
Jeff Greblick sprinted down the middle and was in the center of the box when a cross was delivered from right wing. Greblick couldn't get full power on it, though, and RPI goalkeeper Matt LaBranche saved it. Only minutes before that, Andrew Gondek's corner kick was headed at goal by Devon Baughen, but the Yellowjacket defense blocked it.
With 10 minutes left in the first half, Rochester's Mario Yanez-Tapia forced a save from LaBranche but that and the Greblick shot were the only two on goal for the Yellowjackets.
Â
The Engineers earned a corner kick with 2:30 left in the first half. Brandon Pirog's header off the corner from Isaac Dugas was blocked. Rochester countered late in the half only to see
Cristian Baltier's shot go wide.
Â
Rochester had a flurry of shots early in the second half that nearly broke onto the scoreboard.
Geoffrey Rouin's attempt hit the post seven minutes in. A followup by Greblick was blocked, and
Ben Swanger eventually tracked down the ball for another shot only to have it drift high.
Â
Stephen Collins had a try blocked with just over three minutes left in the first half.
Â
Rochester's record stands at 6-0-1 after the tie. RPI is 2-4-2.
