CLEVELAND, OH - Two nationally ranked opponents took down the University of Rochester volleyball team on Saturday afternoon at UAA Round Robin #1 being hosted at Case Western Reserve University.

Rochester (10-7, 0-2 UAA) fell in its opening match 3-0 to #3 ranked Emory University, 25-12, 25-19, and 25-11. In the nightcap, the Yellowjackets again lost in three sets, this time to #25 University of Chicago 25-21, 25-12 and 25-20.

In the Emory match, UR was led by
Alara Kocak who had seven kills. Both
Clara Martinez and
Allie DeRubertis added five kills each.Â
Renae Lapins chipped in 11 assists while
Beth Ghyzel had three kills and seven assists.Â
Courtney Vidovich led the Yellowjackets with five digs.

The Eagles (13-1, 1-0 UAA) were led by Leah Saunders who had nine kills and four digs. Three players, Morgan McKnight, Sydney Leimbach and Sara Carr had six kills each.

Against Chicago, Kocak had 10 kills to pace UR who was able to hang with the Maroons in the first and third sets. Martinez added five kills and four blocks while Ghyzel had four kills, 12 assists and 11 digs. Lapins had 12 assists and seven digs while DeRubertis had three kills and four blocks as well.Â
Kayla Sell chipped in four kills while Vidovich had 18 digs.

Emma Griffith led UC (14-3, 2-0 UAA) with 35 assists and 10 digs while Sarah Muisenga had 12 kills and eight digs for the Maroons. Audrey Scrafford led all players with 14 kills.

Rochester completes play at UAA Round Robin #1 on Sunday morning with a match against Brandeis University at 10 am.
