ORLANDO, FL – The University of Rochester men's tennis team kicked off its spring break week of matches with a 6-3 victory over NAIA school Georgetown College of Kentucky on Sunday afternoon.

The win pushes UR's record to 4-6 on the year, while Georgetown levels its season mark at 3-3 with the loss.

Two Rochester players,
Tanmay Thakkar and
Sahaj Somani were double winners for the Yellowjackets. Thakkar won at #3 singles, 6-1, 6-3 over Philipp Hoeper and paired with
Damani Eubanks for a win at #3 doubles.

Somani won the match clinching point at #6 singles, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Cole McCreary. He also won at #2 doubles with
Mattias Hartveit.

Thakkar won twice.
Other Rochester wins came from
Yifan Shen at #4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Isaac Mathis, while
Peter Huang was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Hunter Nosek at #5 singles.

Rochester jumped ahead after the conclusion of doubles play, winning two of three matches. Thakkar and Eubanks won 8-3 over McCreary and Mathis. Georgetown followed with a win from Ryo Takeda and Tristan Nosek by an 8-4 score over
Masaru Fujimaki and Huang at #1 doubles. Somani and Hartveit then gave UR the lead with an 8-6 win over Hunter Nosek and Hoeper.

In singles, Shen put UR up 3-1 before Tristan Nosek topped
Jun Yuminaga 6-2, 6-2 at #2 to pull the Tigers back within one point overall.

Huang's straight set win, followed by Somani's comeback victory then sealed the match in favor of UR.

Rounding out play was Takeda defeating Fujimaki 6-3, 6-4 at #1, and Thakkar topping Hoeper.

The Yellowjackets next match in Florida will be against the University of Texas at Tyler on Tuesday at 9 am.
