Yuminaga Gets UR's Lone Point In Loss to UT-Tyler

ORLANDO, FL – The 26th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler men's tennis team captured an 8-1 victory over the University of Rochester on Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.

Rochester's lone victory came from senior Jun Yuminaga at #2 singles.  He opened with a 6-2 win in the first set against Vinicio Hadlich, the #38 singles player in Division III, and then earned the point when Hadlich had to retire at the start of the second set.

The Yellowjackets put up some good fights in singles against the Patriots, but it was to no avail as UT-Tyler took the remaining five singles matches in straight sets.  Two UR players, Tanmay Thakkar and Peter Huang, forced tiebreakers in their opening set but lost to their Patriot opposition.  Thakkar fell 7-6 (3) and 6-2 to Daniel Rodriguez at #3, while Huang was beaten 7-6 (12-10) by Pablo Gomez in the #5 spot.

Other singles result included the #11 Division III singles player Arthur Fagundes winning 6-1, 6-2 over Masaru Fujimaki at the top spot, Gabriel Hidalgo winning 6-2, 6-1 over Yifan Shen at #4 and Sahaj Somani dropping a 7-5, 6-2 match at #6 to Jose McIntyre.

In doubles, two of UT-Tyler's pairs are nationally ranked in the top-25, and those teams posted impressive wins at 1st and 2nd doubles respectively.  At one, Fagundes and Gomez (ranked #13) won 8-3 over Fujimaki and Huang while Rodriguez and Hidaglo (ranked #22) defeated Yuminaga and Somani by an 8-0 score.

The third doubles match featuring UR's Thakkar and Damani Eubanks and Hadlich and McIntyre was the closest, and ended up going in favor of the UT-Tyler combo 8-6.

Rochester is now 4-7 on the year while Texas-Tyler is 4-1.
