UR Drops Spring Trip Finale to Roger Williams

Lexington, SC – The Rochester baseball team faced off against Roger Williams for the second time in three days on their spring break trip down south. Once again  UR was plagued by errors in an 11-3 loss to the hawks.

Rochester jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on only to go quiet on offense against a strong Roger Williams pitching performance from Jimmy Smith (1-2). UR gave up just four earned runs in the game but the inconsistent defense allowed Roger Williams to pull away.

After tying the game at three all in the bottom of the fourth inning, Roger Williams did the bulk of their damage in the sixth with six more runs on six hits. Rochester put one on the board in the top of the eighth on an Aiden Finch RBI single but the margin was too much for the Yellowjackets to overcome.

UR used five different pitchers on the day, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits while striking out eight and walking nine. Will Conroy got the start for Rochester, going four innings with five K's and seven walks. Sophomore pitcher Brendan Shamieh tossed a scoreless inning in relief allowing just one hit.24063

Smith went eight innings on the bump for Roger Williams allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking one. Joe Smith came on four one inning for the hawks in relief and struck out one UR hitter.

Tyler Schmidt led the Yellowjacket offense going 3-4 with two runs scored. Jack Herman had two runs batted in on a first inning single. Finch kept his bat hot with two more hits and an RBI while Steve Pickering had two hits and a run scored for Rochester.

Danny Roth went 3-4 with a walk for Roger Williams, adding three RBI's and a run scored. Tyler Rondeau went 2-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored and Chris Bosco chipped in two hits and a run scored for the Hawks.

Rochester finishes their spring break trip at 0-5 and will return to play SUNY Brockport next Wednesday at 4 PM.
