It was a tight battle throughout, but the University of Rochester men's tennis team dropped a 6-3Â decision to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The loss drops UR to 5-9 on the year, while Stevens picks up its second win of the year and is now 2-6.

The match opened with the Ducks taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play.Â
Sahaj Somani and
Mattias Hartveit earned the opening point for UR, winning 8-4 at #3 over William Persson and David Schulz.

Stevens then scored wins at #1 from Kyle Henry and Mark Kanevsky and at #2 from Danny Polk and Bryan Szayna. Henry and Kanevsky topped
Masaru Fujimaki and
Tanmay Thakkar 8-6, while the Polk-Szayna combo defeated
Yifan Shen and
Jun Yuminaga in a nailbiting 8-7 match.

In singles, UR's Shen opened with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #3, defeating Henry to even the overall match score 2-2. Polk then gave Stevens the slim lead again with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #2 over Yuminaga.

Stevens then earned a win from Kanevsky over Thakkar at #4, taking a two point lead overall, up 4-2.

Peter Huang lost at #5 to Szayna 6-0, 6-2, surrendering the fifth point of the match to the Ducks.
That happened while the final two matches of the day were going to three sets. At #1, Fujimaki won 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 over Persson, while Gabriel Sifuentes topped Somani 7-6, 2-6, 10-2 at #6.

The Yellowjackets next match will be in two weeks when UR takes on St. Lawrence University on the road on April 7th.
