GENEVA, N.Y. - Rochester's men won two singles match and one doubles pairing in a 6-3 loss at Hobart College on Thursday afternoon. The Yellowjackets are 6-10 overall with two matches remaining: hosting NYU on Saturday and playing at Union College next Friday. The UAA Championships follow in Florida.
UR had two wins in its last three matches heading into this one: beating Augustana of South Dakota in Florida, falling to Stevens Institute of Technology, and then defeating St. Lawrence University this past weekend.
Masaru Fujimaki was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at #1 singles. His victory got the Yellowjackets within 3-2 in team scoring before the Statesmen won three in a row to seal the team victory.
Sahaj Somani won in the super tiebreaker at #6 (7-5, 6-7, 10-7) for Rochester's final team point. He was a double winner, pairing with
Mattias Hartveit to win, 8-7 (7-5) at #3 doubles.
Yifan Shen at #3 and
Peter Huang at #5 both battled their singles opponents into a third set.
