It was a tight match throughout, but visiting New York University pulled out a 6-3 victory over the University of Rochester in men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The loss moves UR's record to 6-11 on the year with one regular season match left, while NYU improves to 4-5 on the season.

After doubles, the Violets held a 2-1 lead. NYU's team of Benedict Teoh and Shrikar Kundur opened with an 8-3 victory over UR's
Sahaj Somani and
Mattias Hartveit. That was followed by an 8-4 win from NYU's Vishal Walia and Rahul Das at #3 over
Damani Eubanks and
Jun Yuminaga.

The Yellowjackets then capped doubles with a win at #1, coming from
Masaru Fujimaki and
Yifan Shen. That duo won 8-6 over Umberto Setter and Zeb Zheng.

In singles, Rochester opened with a straight set win from
Tanmay Thakkar at #4 to even the score. UR's sophomore won 6-4, 6-1 over Joshua Piatos.

NYU then ran off three straight victories to swipe the match. At #2, Walia won 6-4, 7-5 over Yuminaga, while both the #1 and #3 singles matches went to three sets.

At #1 in a battle of regionally ranked individuals, Setter defeated Fujimaki 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 while at #3, Stefan Rodic outlasted Shen 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

UR's third point came from
Peter Huang at #6, winning 6-3, 6-4 over Teoh, while Yanick Parsch topped Somani at #5 by a 6-3, 6-1 score to grab the Violets final point of the match.

The Yellowjackets are back in action next Friday at Union College.
