Spikers Claim Two More 3-0 Victories; Improve to 12-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Rochester ran its winning streak to 12 straight victories with a pair of 3-0 wins at the Buffalo State Bengal Challenge. UR defeated Allegheny College, 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-17) in the first match Saturday, then defeated Capital University of Ohio, 3-0, (25-17, 25-15, 25-7). The Yellowjackets improved their record to 12-0.
 
Allie DeRubertis was the kill leader vs. Allegheny. She had 10. Clara Martinez and Kate Korslund had seven each. Lydia Barnard and Beth Ghyzel added three.
 
UR served eight aces – two each by Ghyzel and Megan Hauer. Sara Apanavicius had 16 digs. Lauren Lopez had eight. Courtney Vidovich had six, as did Barnard. Three players dug five attacks: Ghyzel, Korslund, and DeRubertis.
 
Hope Havenhill had the only solo block. She also had a block assist. Martinez had two block assists, Ghyzel, Tamara Shaw, and DeRubertis had one each. Ghyzel had 33 assists.
 
UR hit the ball very accurately against Capital (.383 pct.). The Yellowjackets hit .333 in game one, .344 in game two, .500 in game three. DeRubertis led the way with 13 kills (.345) and Martinez hit .615 enroute to nine kills. Korslund had four, Shaw three, Megan McHugh and Ghyzel two each.
 
Ghyzel had 34 assists. She and Apanavicius had two aces apiece. The dig leader was Lopez with seven. UR had four solo blocks (Martinez two, Korslund and Shaw one each) and 12 block assists: McHugh 3, Havenhill two, Martinez two, and five with one – Kiara Carrasquilla, DeRubertis, Ghyzel, Korslund, Shaw.
 
Rochester and Case Western Reserve were declared co-champions of the tournament. Each team was 3-0 and lost only one set in the weekend. Rochester's representative on the six-person all-tournament team (one from each team) was Martinez.
