UR Scores Five In Road Win At Alfred

ALFRED, NY – Backed by a season-high five goals, the University of Rochester men's soccer team moved to 6-0 on the season after a 5-1 win over Alfred University on Tuesday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

The Yellowjackets got two goals from senior Bryce Ikeda and single tallies from Anurag Dwivedi, Mitch Volis and Rio Kehe in the victory.  Cristian Baltier added two assists while Patrick Conway and Hugh Curran each played a half and made one save in goal.  Nik Angyal and Ulrik Koren each added one helper.  Alfred falls to 2-6 with the loss.

6th-ranked UR dominated with some tremendous offensive pressure in the early going, earning four corners and three shots in the games first eight minutes.

Dwivedi then opened the scoring for Rochester at the 8:27 mark.  The sophomore settled a pass from Baltier at the edge of the box and ripped a right footed shot into the top right corner of the net.

Alfred answered in the 22nd minute with a goal from Alexander Tostanoski.  A long ball in from midfield found the head of Cody Cronmiller deep in the box who headed a cross in front to Tostanoski who finished off the goal with a header just off the endline.

Less than ten minutes later, UR struck twice in a span of 53 seconds to regain the lead, with Ikeda scoring both.

At 29:59, a deflected ball found its way to the senior who settled and lined a low, hard, skidding ball into the low left corner of the net.

Kehe scored his first of the season in the 2nd half.

After the restart, UR quickly gained possession back in the Saxon end and Kehe had a shot at an open net, but Alfred's Evan Markey was there to clear the ball off the line.  In the rush to clear though, the Saxons committed a foul in the penalty area, giving the Yellowjackets a penalty kick, which Ikeda converted for the 3-1 lead.

In the 36th minute, Rochester's Ryan Aspenleiter nearly scored, but his shot from in close on the right side clanged off the post.

Alfred looked to get one back in the closing minutes of the half in a similar fashion to its first goal, but Cronmiller's header shot off a long free kick was stopped by Conway in the Yellowjacket net.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets kept up the pressure and built their lead to 4-1 in the 51st minute.  Baltier gained possession and chipped a pass back to Angyal along the right wing where the senior sent a long cross in to Volis who was left unmarked at the far post.  His shot squeezed inside the left post, deflecting off the Alfred keepers side, for his team leading fourth of the season.

Milan Fatschel had a golden opportunity in the 73rd minute to get on the board, but his free kick from 20 yards out sailed high.

At 78:54, Patrice Douge did a nice job winning a 1-on-1 battle along the left wing to keep possession and sent a cross into the crease where Koren was waiting, but the junior couldn't control the ball and the chance went high.

Kehe finished the scoring in the 80th minute though, scoring on a breakaway for his first collegiate goal with Koren slipping the midfield pass through two defenders for the assist.

The Saxon's best chance of the second half came at 83:45 when Tavian Hino slipped a through ball to Tostanoski on a give-and-go, but his open attempt from six yards was chipped high of the net.

Overall in the game, Rochester held a 21-9 advantage in shots and took seven corners to the Saxons one.

UR returns to action on Saturday with a road match at Alvernia University.
