Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Yellowjackets Run Unbeaten Streak to Four with 1-0 Win

After holding a territorial advantage for the first 75 minutes, Rochester had to sustain a four or five minute surge by SUNY Oswego before the Yellowjackets could post a 1-0 victory over the Lakers on Wednesday evening at Fauver Stadium.

The victory ran UR's unbeaten streak to four matches: a win at Keuka, a home tie with 22nd-ranked SUNY Geneseo, a 2-1 win at second-ranked William Smith, and now the 1-0 win over Oswego. Rochester's record is 4-1-1. The Yellowjackets broke into the Division III national poll this week at #23.

Oswego is 3-2-1. The Lakers opened with three wins – over Lasell, Grove City, and D'Youville. Last weekend, they lost at Clarkson, then tied St. Lawrence 0-0 in double overtime.

UR goalkeeper Emma Schechter made two saves to earn the shutout win. Oswego goalie Emma Allen made nine saves. One of her best came in the last 20 seconds of the match. Rochester's Jorie Frietag burst into the middle and fired a riser from 20 yards that Allen was able to fist over the bar to keep the line at 1-0.

With 13 minutes left, the Lakers stormed the Yellowjacket penalty area and swung the ball from left to right. It got past everyone, but Oswego recovered first and swung it back the other way before the UR back line could scramble it out of the penalty area.

Oswego earned a corner kick with less than 11 minutes left. Lynsey Roth played it into the box where Mackenzie Schaffner headed it just past the right post.

Rochester scored the game's only goal halfway through the opening period. Kerri Eden played a corner kick to Margaret Lee in the middle of the area. She pushed it ahead to Jamison Seabury who tapped home the goal at 22:28.

A pair of UR corner kicks back-to-back nearly created a second goal. Maeve Bostley's shot from Annie MacEachron's corner kick was saved by Allen and it popped in the air. Sophie Wolf had a chance to head home the rebound from point-blank range but Allen read it well, and punched the shot away.

Oswego returns home for a three-game SUNY homestand beginning Saturday vs. Cortland. Rochester is back on the road, facing Alfred Saturday evening.
