The University of Rochester men's tennis team earned a season-opening victory in its lone dual match of the fall semester, defeating Division II Roberts Wesleyan College 6-3 on Wednesday evening at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The Yellowjackets (1-0) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and then finished off the Redhawks (0-1) by winning the opening three matches of singles.

Masaru Fujimaki and
Yifan Shen were double-winners for Rochester. The pair combined for an 8-7 win at 1st doubles and then held down the top two spots in singles, both winning in straight sets. Fujimaki played at #1 and won 6-2, 6-3 over Guido Janssen, while Shen won 6-3, 6-1 over Timothy Nacca at #2.

The other UR doubles win came from
Sahaj Somani and
Pasquale Procaccino who won 8-6 at second doubles. Roberts Wesleyan earned the third doubles point winning over UR's
Peter Huang and
Mark Zolotukhin who fell 8-5.

In singles, Shen and Fujimaki won to put UR up 4-1 and the clinching point was won by
Uriah Miller at #4 in his first college dual match. Miller won 6-4, 7-6 (4) over Dennis Barlotta.

The final UR point of the night was won by Huang at fifth singles over Harmeet Luthra by a 6-1, 6-2 score.

Roberts Wesleyan secured its two singles points at #3 and #6, both coming in three-set matches. At three, Boyd Blackburn defeated
Tanmay Thakkar 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while at six, Procaccino lost to Andrew Freeman 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

The victory snaps a two-match losing streak to the Redhawks for Rochester.
