Rochester improved to 6-0 overall with a pair of homecourt wins on Friday night in the opening matches of the UR Volleyball Invitational. The Yellowjackets defeated Medaille College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-15) and followed that with a 3-0 win over Utica College (25-10, 25-13, 25-16).
 
On Saturday, Rochester plays SUNY Poly at 11 am in the Palestra and follows that with a 3 pm match against St. John Fisher. In other Friday matches, Fisher defeated SUNY Poly, 3-0, and Nazareth defeated Wells, 3-0.
 
Against Medaille, Allie DeRubertis had seven kills. Clara Martinez and Kate Korslund had six. Elizabeth Thomas had three kills. Beth Ghyzel registered 19 assists. The Yellowjackets compiled 11 aces with eight players getting one. Sara Apanavicius had three and Ghyzel had two. Six others had one each.
 

The dig leaders were Apanavicius with 13 and Courtney Vidovich with 12. Korslund had four. UR had 12 blocks – solos by Martinez and Tamera Shaw, 12 block assists: Martinez four, Shaw and Korslund two each.
 
For Medaille (1-3), Melissa Postek had seven kills. Stephanie Ciesla and Eleanor Clarke had five each. Clarke added eight assists. Savannah Berry had seven. Gina Appenheimer had 13 digs, Clarke had 11.
 
Rochester hit .386 against Utica, taking command with a .571 percentage in game one. Martinez had seven kills, DeRubertis five, Shaw three. The Yellowjackets served 14 aces – four by Lauren Lopez, three by Vidovich and Apanavicius. Shaw had two blocks.
 
Ghyzel had 17 assists, Renae Lapins had 10. Vidovich compiled 11 digs. Lydia Barnard had five, DeRubertis four.
 
Nicole Herringshaw had nine kills for Utica. Meaghan Romaguera had five. Marissa Faronia had 10 assists. Briana Toledo dug six balls, Romaguera five, Faroni four.
