UR Falls Twice At Final UAA Round Robin

CLEVELAND, OH – The University of Rochester volleyball team closed out UAA Round Robin play on Sunday afternoon, falling to #3 ranked University of Chicago 3-0 and then to host Case Western Reserve 3-1.
 
Rochester finishes round robin play 0-7 in the conference and will be the UAA's eighth seed at the upcoming UAA conference tournament in early November at Chicago.  UR's overall record is 8-18 on the season.  Chicago meanwhile was 20-1 following its win over Rochester, posting set scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20.
 
In the second match of the day, Rochester was able to force a fourth game winning the third set 25-20 against the Spartans (8-14, 2-5 UAA), but CWRU earned the victory following 25-15, 25-23 and 25-14 set wins.
 
Against the 3rd-ranked Maroons, Allie DeRubertis posted 6 kills, 10 digs and 3 blocks.  Tamer Shaw had five kills while Hope Havenhill, Megan McHugh and Sonia McGaffigan each had three.  Isabelle Miranda added 12 assists, while Sara Apanavicius recorded nine digs and three aces.
 
Anne Marie Stifter led UC with 13 kills, while Madison Pearson recorded seven.  Four players had 10 digs for the Chicago defense and Emma Griffith notched 32 assists.
 
In the CWRU match, DeRubertis finished with 11 kills, 8 digs and 3 aces.  McHugh recorded 10 kills while Shaw and McGaffigan had nine and eight respectively.  McGaffigan also was in on eight block assists, tying for third most in a single-match in UR history.
 
Rochester as a team had 10 blocks, with Shaw contributing five assisted blocks and Beth Ghyzel also added three.  Miranda had 27 assists in the loss while Apanavicius recorded a team high 13 digs, with grad student Emma Dowdy chipping in a season-high nine.
 
CWRU's Haley Sims led all players with 14 kills.  Teammate Katie Kaminski recorded nine and Brianna Lemon added eight.  Jana Giaquinto had 26 digs while Lemon and Sara Rogers had 14 and 11 apiece.  The Spartans recorded 11 service aces in the win, six from Faith Ellis.
 
Rochester's next match is scheduled for Wednesday on the road at Nazareth College starting at 6 pm.
