CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton College jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead and went on to post a 3-1 field hockey win over the University of Rochester on Wednesday afternoon.

The Continentals boosted themselves back over the .500 mark at 8-7. Rochester is 12-7 overall with one match left in the regular season. UR plays at SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon, then goes to Ithaca for the semifinals of the Liberty League championships next Wednesday.

In goal,
Kate Kujawa made 10 saves for Rochester and
Emma Schlechter had a defensive save. Hamilton goalie Maggie Reville made seven stops and Keely Duran had a defensive save.

Rochester took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a penalty stroke goal by
Amanda Strenk with 5:09 elapsed. It was Strenk's 11
th goal of the season. The Continentals drew even at 7:37 when Maura Holden scored her seventh goal of the year.

With just under a minute left in the first quarter, Lexi Takashima scored to put the hosts ahead with Michaela Giuttari picking up the assist. It was the first of the season for Takashima. The lead grew to 3-1 at 23:16 with Mary Kate Sisk scoring her first goal of the year for Hamilton.

The Continentals outshot Rochester 18-12, putting 14 shots on goal. UR had seven penalty corners. Hamilton had four.
