#32 Men's Tennis Posts Two Wins Saturday

The Rochester men's tennis team defeated its second ranked opponent of the season, winning 8-1 over #35 Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.
 
32nd-ranked UR then followed with a 9-0 sweep over Nazareth College later on Saturday, improving its season record to 6-0.  Oberlin falls to 1-6 while Nazareth drops to 0-3.
 
Four players were double winners for Rochester in the Oberlin match, with Runjia Fang, Sahaj Somani, Yifan Shen and Tanmay Thakkar earning wins in both singles and doubles.
 
Rochester's doubles were strong, winning all three matches by either 8-1 or 8-2 scores.  At 1st doubles, Fang and Masaru Fujimaki won 8-2 over Stephen Gruppuso and Elliot Nuss.  At two, Pasquale Procaccino and Somani won 8-1 over Camron Cohen and James Dill.  Shen and Thakkar completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Zachary Vaughn and Sam Topper.
 
The momentum carried over into singles, with Thakkar and Shen earning straight set wins at #4 and #3 respectively to clinch the match early on.  Thakkar posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Nuss while Shen won 6-2, 7-6 over Cohen.

Wagner won twice in the Nazareth match.

Oberlin's lone win came at the top spot when Gruppuso defeated Fujimaki 6-3, 6-3.
 
Closing out the match was Fang winning a tight back-and-forth match over Vaughn (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) at #2, Somani making quick work of Topper (6-0, 6-1) at #5 and Peter Huang winning in three sets (3-6, 7-6, 10-5) over Dill at #6.
 
In the Nazareth match, all six singles matches went straight sets in favor of UR and the three doubles teams continued to be strong, winning by 8-0, 8-1 and 8-2 scores.
 
UR's #1 doubles pair of Peter Huang and Mark Zolotukhin were 8-1 winners over William Britton and Ryan Lalik.  At two, Uriah Miller and Matt Resnikoff topped Ryley Amond and Dominic Vito 8-2.  Adrian Zhang and Connor Wagner shutout their opponents Kellen Boyles and Patrick Dowdle 8-0 at #3 doubles.
 
The singles saw Resnikoff post a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 over Tommy Daviau to make the score 4-0.  Miller then won the clinching point with his own 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 over Britton.
 
Rounding out the match, Zhang topped Tyler Luong 6-1, 6-2 at #3, Zolotukin won by the same score over Amond, Wagner defeated Lalik 6-1, 6-3 at #5 and Ben Gwinnell earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dowdle in the sixth spot.
 
Rochester's next matches are slated for spring break week in California.  UR plays five matches from March 11-14.
