NEW YORK –
Masaru Fujimaki and
Yifan Shen were double winners, but Rochester narrowly lost to New York University, 5-4, on the Violets' home court (Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx) on Sunday afternoon. Rochester is now 11-5 overall. Â NYU is 6-5. Rochester will play RIT on Thursday afternoon.

NYU won two of the three doubles events and three of the six singles matches to secure the five points. The Violets won at #6 singles with Vishal Walia and Shrikar Kundur defeating
Pasquale Procaccino and
Sahaj Somani, 8-2.

Rochester evened it at 1-1 with Fujimaki and Shen combining to win first doubles, 8-6 against Rahul Das and Zeb Zheng. At #2 doubles, Runia Fang and
Peter Huang battled throughout before NYU won 8-6 through Benedict Teoh and Lucas Biondi.

NYU clinched the victory by winning three straight singles matches. At #5, Das defeated Somani, 6-2, 6-2. Yanik Parsch won 6-2, 6-1, over
Tanmay Thakkar at #4. Fang split his first two sets vs. Biondi at #3 singles. Biondi won, 6-4, in the first set, Fang controlled the second set, 6-1, before Biondi posted a 6-1 decision to seal the fifth team point and the victory.

Shen beat Stefan Rodic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, at #2 singlexs. Fujimaki won in a tiebreaker vs. Walis at #1, 6-7, 6-1, 10-7. Rochester's final team point came at #6.
Mark Zolotukhin of Rochester won the first set vs. Zheng, 6-3. Zhen evened it with a 6-2 win in the second. Zolotukhin led, 2-1, in the third set when Zheng retired.
