AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – In a rematch from last year's Liberty League Championship Game, the University of Rochester baseball team traveled east down I-90 to take on the Union College Dutchmen. UR headed into the game coming off of a 5-4 loss to Oswego.
Rochester won both games over Union on Saturday. The Yellowjackets improve to 18-14 overall and 11-7 in conference play.
GAME 1:
The Yellowjackets sent junior
Garrett Renslow to the mound to start the first game of the doubleheader. Renslow would start off strong, getting out of the first with just two hits allowed and picking up a strikeout.
Aiden Finch opened up the second inning with a single through the left side. After a sac bunt by
Steve Pickering moved Finch into scoring position,
Jack Herman doubled to right center to give Rochester a 1-0 lead.
Herman would add to his offensive performance, launching one over the wall in left to give UR a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4
th.
In the top of the seventh.
Kyle Trombley would hit into a fielder choice, allowing
Joseph Rende to cross home safely. Later in the inning,
Jacob Matzat would hit a sac-fly to left to bring
David Rieth home to give UR a 4-0.
Brendan Shamieh would come into to close out the game, getting three groundouts on 11 pitches to secure the win in game 1.
Renslow pitch six shutout innings for the win, striking out six along the way. Herman finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Finch went 2-for-4. Matzat and Trombley each finished with an RBI.
GAME 2:
Matzat would get the scoring started early in game 2, driving in Trombley on a single to right.
Jon Turk was in cruise control to start this game. The sophomore set down each of the first six batters he faced. Union would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth after a couple of defensive miscues allowed the Dutchmen to score a pair of runs.

Down 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Rochester had a runner on second.
Harper Sy would give the Yellowjackets the lead for good, crushing one over the wall in left for a 3-2 lead.
Shamieh would come in to pitch the final two innings to pick up his second save on the afternoon.
Turk would finish the game with 7 innings pitched, allowing 5 hits, and striking out three. Trombley, Matzat, Sy, and Rende each finished with a pair of hits.
Rochester will return to action for one more doubleheader against Union.
