Third-Ranked Tufts Tops #14 Rochester in Field Hockey

MEDFORD. MA – Tufts University scored two first quarter goals enroute to a 3-1 field hockey victory over the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon. The match paired two of Division III's top 15 programs. Tufts is ranked third in the current poll of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Rochester is ranked 14th. Tufts improved to 3-0 this year. Rochester is 3-3.
 
Gillian Roeca and Claire Foley scored in the first seven minutes. Steady pressure from the home team kept the Yellowjacket offense from being able to shoot. Rochester finally broke onto the scoreboard in the fourth period through a goal from Leona Fisher, assisted by Amanda Guido.
 
The hosts finished the game with a 20-5 advantage in shots and 7-2 in corners.
 
Roeca converted a pass from Beth Krikorian in the fifth minute and Foley drove home a shot off a rebound of Krikorian's blast at the midpoint of the period. Alexis Chauvette completed the Tufts scoring in the third quarter.
 
Rochester goalie Kate Kujawa made 11 saves – six over the second and third periods. In the fourth period, Guido unleashed a long blast from outside the circle and Fisher was in front to take advantage.
 
The Yellowjackets play at SUNY New Paltz in one week's time. Tufts meets MIT.
